How did you get started?
When my daughter was 5 years old she wanted to try karate, so naturally I put her in Jiu Jitsu. And after watching her do it, I decided I should try it. Little did I know I would fall completely in love with it.

What’s the biggest challenge you’ve encountered in your training, and how did you overcome it?
I am not a big person so most people I train with are bigger than me. Which can get frustrating sometimes. So I had to find a way to use my lack of size to help my game. And learn how to be good in the spots I end up in a lot. So yes, I love playing guard.

What’s your favorite thing about training or teaching, and why?
I love everything about training. The constant learning and growing. But teaching has been a newer passion of mine. I absolutely love seeing the light bulb turn on and watching my students grow. And seeing my couple stripe white belts helping the newer teammates. The love and sense of family that is shown on the mat is amazing.

What are your personal goals on and off the mat?
On the mat, just constantly learning and working on perfecting the things I already know. And growing with Easton. Off the mat I have two little girls, so working to be the best mom I can be. Showing them what it looks like to care for others while you care for yourself.

What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?
I did an Ironman in 2008.

How did you get started?
Badly broken wrist made traditional styles and striking difficult. I needed a grappling style that would require less impact on the wrist.
What’s the biggest challenge you’ve encountered in your training, and how did you overcome it?
Fear and anxiety about losing over and over, panic in uncomfortable spots. I got comfortable with the idea of “winning or learning.” I began to focus on my breathing-calming my breath-when I got into bad positions. Then, things seemed to slow down a bit and started to survive. Eventually, I began to thrive
What’s your favorite thing about training or teaching, and why?
I am a high-motor guy. Training is a way to release some of that static energy. Teaching is my chance to help people in whatever way it is that they need help that day. Jiu jitsu is something that improves lives across the board. I get to facilitate that improvement. I get to bring something positive to the world.
What are your personal goals on and off the mat?
I have been studying martial arts in various forms for 21 years. I have 3 brown belts and no black belts. I am patiently driving toward that black belt. Off the mat, my number 1 thing is being the best Dad that I can possibly be-Black Belt Dad. There is nothing more important to me than my kids.
What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?
I got married in a thousands of years old bulding near the Colosseum in Rome after a bizarre adventure with a crazy cast of characters.

What year did you start training?

2012, 5 year break, and back since 2019.

How did you get started?

Showed up to a BJJ academy looking for kickboxing classes. Tried a class of BJJ and was hooked before class ended.

What’s the biggest challenge you’ve encountered in your training, and how did you overcome it?

Developing and offensive game. I listened to my instructors, set a game plan from positions where I find myself often, and continue to get repetitions.

What’s your favorite thing about training/teaching, and why?

Learning and helping others learn. BJJ is a game with countless permutations, so learning a new technique is exciting but knowing that there’s still more to learn keeps me coming back. Being able to help others where I struggled is the best part of teaching.

What are your personal goals on and off the mat?

Have fun, become a better person, and help others with their goals.

What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?

I learned how to speak English from Eminem.

How did you get started?

I had just gotten out of an emotional and physically abusive relationship, I wanted to learn how to protect myself and feel safe. I wanted to do something that could bring me joy and happiness so that I could feel like myself again.

What’s the biggest challenge you’ve encountered in your training, and how did you overcome it?

Consistency! Injuries and jobs affected my training schedule and I wasn’t able to train how I wanted to. I over came this with the help of an awesome bjj support system, (best friends and husband) that continued to remind me of the important role jiu jitsu plays in my life, and how it keeps my mental health in check.

What’s your favorite thing about training/teaching, and why?

I love training for the mental aspect of doing jiu jitsu as well as the amazing group of people that have become a second family! I love teaching because it allows me to give back what was given to me and I love watching people grow and succeed through their challenges.

What are your personal goals on and off the mat?

Goals on the mat: get 1% better every time I am on the mat and be a great role model for all the girls in the Tiger classes as well as my own daughter (who trains)!

Goals off the mat: to launch my own business “Bella Cacao” and to travel all over the world.

What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?

I am a Herbalist and Reiki Master.

Kids Martial Arts in DenverKids Martial Arts in Denver Teaches Kids How to Think Critically

This article is aimed at showing you how your kids will learn to think effectively and critically through Martial Arts Classes. We all know the being able to think  critically is important in life because making the right, smart decisions is key to ensuring a healthy future as an adult. How can you make sure that your kids develop these critical thinking skills? Help your kids develop these critical thinking skills by taking them to Martial Arts Classes. They will definitely learn that critical thinking is an important part of self defense. Learning self defense techniques, exercises and moves takes a lot of brain power. Learning and how when to use these moves is a big part of any kids martial arts program.

Your kids will be able to analyze every situation in a meticulous manner and make the right decisions. Instantly they will think of all the proper outcomes.
Martial Arts techniques will help your child focus, learn discipline, goal setting, Work ethics, and many other skills that are necessary are valuable to being a productive adult. It is important that you do what is best for your kids and enroll them in a Martial Arts class, so that they can get all of these benefits. Thinking critically can be attained at all ages,  why not give your children  a head start today?

Kids Martial Arts Will Teach Your Child How to Achieve!!!

Achievement and goal setting is an essential trait in life. Too often nowadays kids are losing these essential skills. Schools have taken away 1st place, 2nd place, and 3rd place standings. Basketball games now have now winner or loser. We live in a world where our children are simply being handed what they want, without having to work for it, or fail a little bit here and there. Bottom line is THIS IS UNREALISTIC.
Life is harsh and if our kids are not learning how to work for something or experiencing how to fail, we are setting them up for failure. When your child is enrolled in martial arts, they are immediately set with the goal of Black Belt.  Black Belts do not come easy. In order for your child to attain a Black Belt, they must first make the commitment to work hard, be disciplined and do whatever it takes in order to achieve that goal.
The earlier you start your child in martial arts the easier it will be for them to learn goal setting.  They will have an unfair advantage over other kids because through Martial Art they will be learning many of the important traits that are necessary to being a successful and productive adult.
